As humans, we could theoretically consume raw food, but most of the food donated to needy people requires preparation by heating, cooking, roasting or baking. Food donations from wealthy countries necessarily require a preparation process by heating, regardless of whether the recipients have fuel and clean, drinkable water or not. In our hemisphere, cooking is not a problem. We have the financial resources, oil, gas or other fuels.

Traditionally, the poorer countries located mostly in very hot regions as well as in isolated settlements of Namibia, Australia, South America, etc. often lack sufficient and regulated supplies of essential cooking aids and fuel. A good example are the areas and refugee camps on the southern edge of the Sahara. 

While thirty years ago forest were growing, only brush can be found today.  Areas that were recently covered with brush have nothing left today, only a barren and empty desert. The only thing still growing steadily is the desert itself. The residents of these areas now have to walk for days to find wood for cooking and usually take anything that is available. 

Who would not emphasize with these people living below the subsistence minimum?  It is a proven fact that 75% of their formerly available resources are now gone. New growth is not emerging. As a consequence, the destruction of nature will also affect our existence, since desperate people will migrate en masse to other regions to find food and a chance to survive.  They will emigrate north to areas that are already greatly challenged by global warming. 

It will no longer suffice to pacify northern populations with new measures, like a speed limit of 120 km/hour, or smaller car engines or foregoing vacations that require long distance air travel.  In addition, a diminishing fresh water supply is becoming a reality as well.
